लौह धातुओं का वर्गीकरण

 लौह धातुओं का वर्गीकरण (Classification of ferrous metals)

1.    कच्चा लोहा (Pig iron)

2 .    ढलवाँ लोहा (Cast iron)

3.     पिटवा लोहा  (Wrought iron)

4.    स्टील (Steel)

      कच्चा लोहा एक मूल  धातु हैं | कच्चे लोहे का सोधन (Refining) करके ही ढलवां लोहा , पिटवा लोहा तथा स्टील का उत्पादन किया जाता है | 

इसी प्रकार पिटवा लोहा (wrought iron) आयरन की सबसे पुरानी किस्म है | इसमें उच्च शुद्धता का आयरन होता है तथा आयरन सिलिकेट होता है | इसमें कार्बन की मात्रा बहुत कम होती है तथा आयरन सिलिकेट ,जिसे स्लैग (Slag) भी कहते हैं |  

इसी प्रकार कास्ट आयरन मूलतः एक एलाय ही  है जिसमे आयरन ,कार्बन तथा सिलिकॉन मुख्यतः होते हैं | विभिन्न गुणों वाले कास्ट आयरन का भी उत्पादन किया जा रहा है | 

लोहा प्राप्ति के श्रोत (Sources of Iron )

लोहे को शोधन करने के लिए लौह अयस्कों (Iron ores) का शोधन (Refining) किया जाता है | लौह अयस्क पृथ्वी में प्रचुर मात्रा में उपलब्ध है जिन्हे खदानों से निकाला जाता है | पृथ्वी से निकाले जाने वाले लौह अयस्क विभिन्न नामों से जाने जाते हैं | विभिन्न  आयरन अयस्क सामान्यता लोहे के  ऑक्साइड ,sulfide तथा कार्बोनेट आदि के रूप में होते हैं 

विभिन्न आयरन अयस्क निम्नलिखित हैं -

मैग्नेटाइट (Magnetite)

 हैमेटाइट (Hematite)

लिमोनाइट (Limonite)

सिडेराइट (Siderite)

Cast iron is a basic metal.  Cast iron, wrought iron and steel are produced only by refining cast iron.Similarly, wrought iron is the oldest type of iron.  It contains high purity iron and iron silicate.  It contains very less amount of carbon and iron silicate, which is also called slag.

 Similarly, cast iron is basically an alloy which mainly consists of iron, carbon and silicon.  Cast iron with different properties is also being produced.

 Sources of Iron

 Refining of iron ores is done for refining iron.  Iron ore is available in abundance in the earth which is extracted from mines.  Iron ore extracted from the earth is known by various names.  Various iron ores are usually in the form of iron oxide, sulfide and carbonate etc.
